Many people ask if the use of elliptical trainers is a good way to burn calories.

One simple answer: Yes! Very much so.

Elliptical trainers are a great way to burn calories and are a fun workout at the same time. If you goal is to loose weight you do have to understand how a “calorie diet” works. To shed the unwanted weight you must burn more calories than you take in. Put simply, you must burn more calories than you eat. So if you decide to eat the slice of pizza be ready to do a ton of exercise to work that off.

Humans throughout the day will burn a certain amount of calories doing normal functions such as working at a job, walking around and doing housework. This has to be taken into account so you really do not have to workout to burn calories.

If you are physically active during the day you will not have to restrict your diet as much as someone who sits in an office chair all day.

How can an elliptical trainers use benefit someone watching calories?

The user of an elliptical trainer will help you burn a tremendous amount of calories. By burning more calories it will allow you to loose weight faster and eat a little bit more since you have worked off some calories already.

One mistake many people make is they burn off 500 calories working out then they over eat and take in 700. This isn’t really helping you as you are 200 calories higher than prior to working out. Doing something like burning off 500 calories and eating 400 calories is “better” as it allows you to still have 100 calories less that what you took in.

When shopping for an elliptical trainer, it can be confusing to know which brands are the best. The best elliptical trainers contain a number a features and functions and are available in a wide price range depending on your individual needs. Elliptical trainers are manufactured by the top names in fitness equipment and by lesser-known companies. Finding the best elliptical trainer will depend on the intensity and frequency in which you plan to use your elliptical trainer and your budget.

It is important to know what features you will need and which extras will be of no use to you. Before visiting a web site or retailer, you should determine the type of elliptical trainer you require and which features will be the most important to you. The best elliptical trainers will include dual action bars, the ability to design a workout plan online or using the built in display, have adjustable resistance, and adjustable pedals.

Some fitness equipment manufacturers advertise their elliptical trainers to be the best available when in reality, they are of average construction and only moderately effective. A bit of research and price comparisons will give you an idea of what you can expect to spend for the type of features you desire and the reviews the machine has received from consumers.

Choosing the best elliptical trainer for you requires that you educate yourself on the various types available and determine what price range will fit into your budget. The goal in choosing an elliptical trainer is to find a quality piece of equipment that you will enjoy using. Compare prices and consumer ratings before you shop to give yourself the information you need to make an educated choice.

Refractive eye surgery is a type of eye surgery that is used to rectify refractive errors of the eye and decrease dependency on corrective lenses such as eyeglasses and contact lenses. Successful refractive procedures can reduce myopia or nearsightedness, hyperopia or farsightedness, and astigmatism or elongated corneas. A number of different procedures exist for refractive eye surgery depending upon the type and severity of the refractive error.

There are four main types of refractive eye surgery procedures: flap and photoablation procedures; corneal incision procedures; thermal procedures; and implants. Currently, the most common refractive eye surgeries involve the use of lasers to reshape the cornea.

Flap procedures involve cutting a small flap in the cornea so that the tissue underneath can be reshaped to correct the refractive error. LASIK, short for Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis, is the most popular refractive surgery and is used to correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The LASIK procedure involves using a microkeratome or IntraLase to cut a flap into the stroma, moving the flap out of the way, removing excess corneal tissue with an excimer laser, then replacing and smoothing out the flap. LASEK is best suited for individuals with thin or flat corneas. The LASEK procedure uses a small trephine blade to cut into the shallow epithelium, after which the eye is bathed in a mild alcohol solution to soften the edges of the epithelium. The flap is gently moved out of the way so that an excimer laser can remove excess corneal tissue, after which the flap is replaced and smoothed out. Epi-LASIK, like LASEK, involves a shallow cut into the epithelium, but makes use of epikeratome to create a thin epithelium sheet for removal instead of the harsher blade and alcohol.

Photoablation, the second stage in flap procedures, makes use of ultraviolet radiation to remove excess corneal tissue. PRK, or photorefractive keratectomy, was the original laser eye surgery procedure. PRK involves numbing the eye with local anesthetic eye drops, and reshaping the cornea by destroying miniscule amounts of tissue from the surface of the eye. The laser used, an excimer laser, is a computer-controlled ultraviolet beam of light. It burns cool so as not to heat up and damage the surrounding eye tissue.

Corneal incision procedures such as radial keratotomy and arcuate keratotomy use miniscule incisions in the cornea to alter its surface and correct refractive errors. Radial keratotomy, or RK, uses a diamond tipped knife to make a number of spoke-shaped incisions in the cornea. The result of the incisions is that the cornea flattens out, minimizing the effects of myopia. Arcuate keratotomy, or AK, is very similar to RK. The diamond knife is used to cut incisions that are parallel to the edge of the cornea, as opposed to the spoke-shaped incisions of the RK procedure. These procedures have been much less common with the emergence of laser-assisted refractive eye surgeries.

Thermal procedures use heat to correct temporarily hyperopic refractive errors, or farsightedness. The thermal keratoplasty procedure involves putting a ring of 8 or 16 small burns on the eye immediately surrounding the pupil. The application of the heat increases the slope of the cornea, making it steeper, through thermal contractions. There are two main types of thermal keratoplasty. Laser Thermal Keratoplasty, or LTK, is a no-touch procedure that uses a holmium laser. Conductive Keratoplasty, or CK, uses a high-frequency electric probe.

The final type of refractive eye surgery involves the use of implants. Implantable contact lenses, or ICL, can be used to correct severe levels of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The implants are actually tiny contact lenses that are inserted through a small incision in the side of the cornea. Implants are seated so they sit immediately in front of the eye’s natural lens just behind the cornea. ICL works in conjunction with the eye’s natural lens to refocus light on the retina and produce a crystal clear image.

Each of these procedures has its advantages and disadvantages, and not all individuals are suitable candidates for refractive eye surgery. Individuals who are interested in learning more about surgical options should contact their ophthalmologist for more information about these procedures, as well as inquire about other new cutting-edge procedures. Since ophthalmologic surgery is constantly growing and changing with emergence of new technologies and methods, there are always new techniques in development. As new equipment is developed and methods refined that can improve the success and minimize the side effects of refractive eye surgery, new procedures will emerge to replace outdated techniques.

I’ve tried many forms of exercise: weightlifting, martial arts, swimming, running and so on. But there’s one form of exercise I started doing about 3 months ago that’s proved to be an unbelievable workout….

….boxing!

Now I don’t mean with sparring gear on, getting hit in the head. I’m referring to either using a punching bag by yourself, or punching mitts with a training partner. The workout is exhausting and also somewhat of a stress reliever.

I use Everlast gear because their products hold up. We do three intense 2-minutes rounds each with sit ups in between…I’m telling you, what a workout!

These are purely my recommendations based on past experiences:

My training partner and I use the following Everlast punching mitts: http://store.everlastboxing.com/everlast-high-performance-mantis- punch-mitts.html. Only $45 dollars and they work great.

If you’d rather not workout with someone, you can get the following punching bag from Everlast for only $160 dollars: http://store.everlastboxing.com/everlast-freestanding-heavy-bag.h tml. It’ll last you a long time. If you think you’re in tip top shape, try developing a workout that focuses around boxing. Like me, you may soon find yourself thinking “whoa!”

It is difficult to fit exercise into a hectic, busy life! But, health is of utmost importance. Without your health, no amount of success or money is fulfilling. So, with that in mind and realizing that only action can achieve results, you may as well get started. Once you do, you may find that fitness isn’t as hard as you might think. Give it some time–you may even begin to like it!

Health professionals have documented evidence that increased activity can improve health and decrease the risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Isn’t your health worth some exertion on your part?

Here are some basics. Really, this is all there is to it–if done on a consistent basis.

Add activity– gradually and progressively– at least 30 minutes of a medium level activity to your day. Medium level activity is nothing more than a brisk walk. A good place to begin is simply to get up during TV commercials and move your body a bit.

Watch food intake — increased daily activity does not give you liberty to eat unhealthy or to forget that calories count. For every additional 100 calories you eat, 15-20 minutes of physical activity is necessary to burn them off.

Keep track of this daily activity so that you know how it affects you and your weight. You may need to increase activity to 60 minutes in order to lose or maintain weight. Keep in mind that you do not have to do all of this activity at one time.

Have a goal – a modest goal is all it takes. Commit to 4 weeks of increased activity and calorie watching.

Trust me–you will be glad you took the time to work toward fitness!

Introduction to be given prior to the exercise:

The practice of the perception of body consists in concentrating the mind on each part of the body, one by one and perceiving the sensations and vibrations taking place in each part. Of course, here the perception does not mean the visual perception, but the mental one. The sensations may be superficial sensations of the skin such as the contact with your clothes warmth or coolness, itching and perspiration etc, or they may be the sensations of pain, numbness, tingling etc. felt in the muscles or the vibrations of the electrical impulses in the nervous system or any other type of vibrations. Starting from the surface you have to penetrate deeply inside and try to become aware of the internal and subtle vibrations. Remain completely equanimous towards the sensations; try to keep your mind free from like or dislike.

The third step of preksha meditation is perception of body. Concentrate your mind on the big toe of your right foot. Allow it to spread and permeate throughout the whole portion of the toe. Perceive the sensations and vibrations taking place in that region. Become aware of them, experience them without any like or dislike; use deep concentration and remain fully alert.

Now shift your attention to each part of right limb one by one. I shall now indicate the name of the part of your body on which you have to concentrate your mind and perceive it: The other toes, the sole, the heel, the ankle, the upper part of the foot, the calf-muscles, the knee, the thigh, upto the hip-joint. Perceive the whole part, experience the sensations and vibrations taking place in each part. Maintain equanimity.

In the same way practice perception of all the parts of your left limb.

Thus the trip of the lower body is completed. Now, start the trip of the middle body from the waist upto the neck. Concentrating your mind on each part one by one–perceive the waist, the navel, the abdomen including the big intestine, the small intestine, the kidney, the spleen, the liver, the pancreas, the duodenum, the stomach and the diaphragm. Then the whole portion of the chest including the lungs, the heart, the ribs, the throat and the vocal cords. Concentrate your mind and perceive.

Then practice the perception of the whole portion of the back including the spine, the spinal cord and the neck. Now concentrate on the whole portion of the right hand and arm including the thumb, the finger, the palm, the wrist, the lower arm, the elbow, the upper arm and the shoulder. Perceive each part one by one. In the same way concentrate on the left hand and arm. The trip of the middle body is completed.

Now we come to the upper body. Concentrate your mind on each part from the chin upto the head. The chin, the lips, the inner portion of the mouth including the tongue, the teeth, the palate, the cheeks, the nose, the right ear, all the three parts—the outer, the middle and the inner, the right temple, in the same way the left ear and the left temple, the right eye, the left eye, the forehead and the head. Perceive each part one by one. During the perception of the tongue allow your tongue to remain hanging freely, without touching anywhere inside the mouth.

While perceiving the head, perceive all parts of your brain–the front, the back, the right, the left, the outer and the inner. Allow your mind to permeate throughout the brain. The trip of the upper body is completed.

Now practice the perception of body as a whole. You may stand up slowly and carefully, keeping your eyes closed. Allow your mind to travel from the big toes to the head and from the head to the big toes, rather speedily. Passing through each part of the body, perceive the vibrations throughout the body. Experience a tingling sensation in each and every muscle, skin, nerve and cell produced by the contact of your conscious mind. You may also practice the holding of breath for a while intermittently. Get yourself completely absorbed in the perception of body.

Now allow your mind to travel throughout the body rather slowly. If you experience pain or any other peculiar sensation, you may stop there for a while and perceive it with equanimity without any like or dislike.

Considering an elliptical trainer? Wondering how an elliptical trainer can benefit you?

If you’re trying to decide between an elliptical trainer and another piece of exercise equipment, here are the top 5 unique elliptical trainer benefits to help you decide:

No Impact:

Recently my 60-year-old mother tried my elliptical trainer and she was shocked at how easy it felt on her joints (she’s a regular treadmill user).

Elliptical trainer workouts are safe on the joints and provide a no impact workout (as opposed to a treadmill where you feet hit the deck with every step). This is ideal for people with back, knee, hips and joint problems as well as older people looking for a no-impact workout.

Weight-Bearing Exercise:

While using an elliptical machine gives you a no-impact workout, the resistance exercise still helps to build bone density and fight off osteoporosis.

As well, weight bearing exercise helps you burn calories much more efficiently (and keeps your calorie burn high for several hours after a workout)

Saves Time

Because most elliptical trainers incorporate upper body arms, elliptical workouts tend to involve the whole body and give you an overall better workout – meaning you burn more calories in less time. That’s always a benefit.

Elliptical trainers have also been proven to offer a lower ‘Perceived Rate of Exertion’ when working out. This means that you’re doing more work and burning more calories while feeling like you put out less effort.

Fights Boredom

60% carbohydrates, 25% fat, 15% protein. A high fat diet will destroy your ability to run.

Exercise your right to run!

There is freedom in covering ground under your own power. Appreciate it!

Fun!

That’s what being an Ordinary Runner is all about!

Go racing!

Getting ready for a race is one of the most motivating aspects of running.

Hydration.

Drink, drink, drink. Your body is mostly water! Keep it that way!

Increase mileage slowly.

When you’re adding mileage, never increase more than 10% a week. This helps to avoid injury.

Just keep moving!

This is the theme song of the Ordinary Runner. We may not be the fastest or sleekest, but we keep moving forward.

Keep a journal.

You’ll be amazed what you’ll learn about yourself, and how quickly you learn what works and what doesn’t work… just by writing it down.

Limping is bad.

If something is hurting bad enough to make you change your stride, you need to rest. Remember RICE for injuries: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Make friends!

Some of your best friends will be people you meet at races or training groups.

Notice the world around you.

Don’t develop the bad habit of simply watching the ground in front of your shoes. Don’t forget to look around and see the world while you’re running!

Only for running!

Only wear your running shoes to run in, not to wear around during the day. You’ve got to keep those midsoles springy! This avoids injury.

Pounds!

Watch the pounds come off! If you just keep moving and stay consistent in your running, you WILL lose weight!

Quilt frequently.

Just seeing if you’re still paying attention. (I bet you think I don’t know a running tip that starts with a “Q”!)

Rotate shoes.

Use 2 pairs of shoes to keep the midsoles fresh. Use the shoe with lower miles for longer runs, and the high mileage shoe for shorter ones. This avoids injuries.

Shoes!

They are your MOST IMPORTANT piece of equipment. Buy quality, and take care of them. I can’t stress this enough. Quality shoes are a must!

Trim your toenails.

Long toenails are a surefire way to get “black toe.” (That’s when your toenail turns solid black from pounding on the end of your shoe!)

Use a heart rate monitor.

Not only will you learn quickly about your heart rate info, but you’ll have a lot of fun. A great piece of technology!

Vacation!

Yes, you need a vacation occasionally, even from running. A week long break once a year will do wonders for your muscles AND your mind.

Wicking materials!

Especially your socks! Keeping sweat away from your feet avoids blisters and Athlete’s Foot. Keeping it away from your torso avoids getting too hot in summer, and too cold in winter.

X-Ray it!

If an injury keeps you from running, and persists, see a doctor! You don’t want to develop a stress fracture!

Yikes! Don’t run from dogs.

Face a dog, make yourself as big as you can, use a big voice. Back away slowly until he loses interest. If he doesn’t lose interest, zig when he zags!

Zero calories in liquids.

If you’re trying to lose weight in general, or training for a race, this is one of the quickest ways to lose it! Don’t drink anything that has calories!

And that’s the Running Tip, from A to Z!

A Second Mortgage is a Property Lien placed behind a First Mortgage

A second mortgage is a loan that you take against the equity that you have already built into your home by paying off some of the principal balance on your first mortgage loan.

Historically the total amount of debt from the first and second mortgage combined could not be more than 80% of the total market value of the home. However, record low interest rates and a competitive lenders marketplace have created a lending environment where some lenders are approving second mortgages that, when combined with first mortgage balance, is totaling as high as 130% of the home value.

However, financial advisors will tell you that carrying that much debt on your home is never a good idea.

Because a second mortgage is a property lien that is placed behind the first mortgage, this means that in the event of a default, after the property is sold the first mortgage gets paid in its entirety, including any legal costs and other costs of the sale, before the second mortgage can be paid. If there is not enough money from the sale of the home, the second mortgage does not get paid.

A Higher Interest Rate

When determining the interest rate that a lender is willing to loan money out for a home mortgage, he looks at the risk level to him for loaning that money. This is the reason that a high risk borrower with a poor credit history gets charged a higher interest rate than a low risk borrower with a strong credit history.

The same theory holds true with a second mortgage. Because the lender of the second mortgage is second to be paid off in the event of a default, and because there is a greater chance that there might not be enough equity in the home to pay off the second mortgage in full, second mortgages are usually given at a higher interest rate than are first mortgages; irregardless of who the borrower is.

Shorter Terms

Although you will have choices for terms when selecting your second mortgage, in general the terms given for them are shorter than those of a first mortgage. This is primarily because the amount of the second mortgage is generally much lower than that of the first mortgage.

Second mortgage repayment terms can vary considerably, so it is important that you look around for the one that is best for you. For the most part they range in length from 2 – 20 years, with the majority of second mortgage loans being 5 – 10 years.

Just as the length of the second mortgage can vary, so can other repayment terms. The majority of second mortgages are paid back in equal monthly payments with a portion of the payment going to interest and a portion to the principal balance, just like a first mortgage. However, some are different such as those known as interest only or balloon mortgages. In that case your monthly payment will go only towards interest and the entire principal will be due at the end of the second mortgage term.

When considering a second home mortgage, be sure to shop around and then talk to lenders to ensure that you get the best deal for you!

Bhakti means devotion or faith. It can be devotion towards your fellow men as well as for the need we are living in this world. The devotion towards your god no matter which faith you are. It is the faith towards the Supreme Being which some may believe and some may not.

The thought is about how devoted you are towards the path you have taken. It is the energy which denotes the path and how important is the path for you. It talks about your full devotion towards the direction you have taken and the values for which you are standing by.

It is also a bond of love which grows between the one who prays to the one he prays to. It talks about love and devotion transcending all the boundaries you must have ever known about. It is not the physical attribute which creates the impact; it is spiritual, which creates unison of mind and soul.

It is one of methods to gain your spiritual path and gaining immense self-awareness which would be very hard to find. Looking into your heart and soul just makes things crystal clear. Need for a mind which is clear from all worries and attachment, for undivided attention to the devoted path.

It talks about love, devotion and knowledge in all forms which can bring a bright change in your life. It can create immense presence of your being in the beautiful world. It is beyond religion, a search for higher ground with your devotion (Bhakti). It is a form of love creating a merger between you and the outside world. It is a process to gather knowledge and also provide it to the one who needs it.
